When Love Breaks (Josephine)

Chapter 183

Ethan was almost certain that something had happened between Josephine and Yvan. Whatever it was, it affected her more deeply than what had happened with Zayn.noveldrama

When they arrived at the hospital, Zayn was immediately wheeled into the emergency room.

Josephine could only wait outside. As she sat there, her phone rang. It was Yvan.

"The insurance company has taken over the case. Zayn was completely at fault. Luckily, the other driver wasn't hurt. I've settled it privately with some compensation. How is he?" Yvan asked.

"He's being treated. The doctor said his injuries aren't too serious but they need to run more tests on his head injury. You should come to the hospital," she replied.

"I'm on my way now." Yvan paused for a moment before adding, "Hey, Josephine."

She tensed up at the sudden shift in his tone. "What?"

"You didn't cry, did you?" he asked.

Josephine's cheeks flushed slightly. "Of course not. Why would I cry for him?"

"Good. That brat is tough. He'll be fine."

Ten minutes later, Yvan arrived at the hospital.

As he stepped onto the second-floor corridor, his gaze landed on Josephine. She

sat on a bench with a man he vaguely recognized.

The two sat closely together. Something about the sight unsettled him.

He knew Josephine well. She was introverted and kept her distance from strangers, especially men. For her to sit this close to someone meant that she considered him a friend and trusted him.

"How is he?" Yvan asked as he walked over. He casually took the seat on Josephine's other side and handed her a steaming cup of tea.

Josephine, too preoccupied with worrying about Zayn, accepted it without hesitation.

Besides, her hands were cold.

"I don't know yet," she said. "They took him into the ER, and he hasn't come out."

Just as she finished speaking, the emergency room doors swung open. Two doctors walked out, followed by nurses pushing Zayn.

Josephine and the others immediately stood up. "How is he?"

The doctor, looking composed, replied, "He has a fractured right arm, a forehead injury from a sharp object, and a moderate concussion from the impact. Other than that, just a few abrasions. We'll keep him under observation for three days. If there are no complications, he can either recover at home of stay for inpatient care."

Phew...

Josephine finally let out a deep breath of relief.

The doctor's assurance confirmed that Zayn was out of danger.

Once Zayn was transferred to a VIP ward, Josephine glanced at him on the hospital bed and then looked at Yvan. "Why don't you stay and take care of him? I'll head back first," she suggested.

"Why should I?" Yvan shot up from his seat, looking defensive.

"If you leave, I'm leaving too," he said.

Josephine glared at him. "You're his brother. I have nothing to do with him

anymore. Why should I be the one taking care of him?"

Yvan scoffed, "Well, this brother doesn't care. And last I checked, your divorce isn't finalized yet. Technically, you're still his wife. If even you won't stay with him then I have even less reason to. We might as well just hire a caregiver."

It felt too heartless to hire a caregiver.

It wasn't like Zayn had no family in Sunvale. If he woke up to a hired caregiver

instead of someone familiar, it would feel miserable.

It was too cruel. She couldn't bring herself to do that.

After a moment of thought, she said, "How about we ask Nadine to come over?"
