Chapter 397 The Ward Family Shares
Since Emily had already said so, Abigail couldn't argue with her.
She just nodded and said, "Alright, you take the call. I'll get back to work."
Emily smiled and nodded back at Abigail.
As Abigail left, the smile on Emily's face faded. Lately, everything felt forced-her smiles, her meals, even just living.
Seeing the name "Leo" on the caller ID, Emily sighed deeply and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Emily, it's me. Your grandfather..." Leo hesitated for a moment, then continued with a trembling voice, "Emily, I need you to come to the Ward Mansion. There are some things I need to say to you in person."
Emily couldn't understand what there was left to discuss with the Ward family. A grandfather she barely knew, an uncle who was a murderer, and two cousins with whom she shared no emotional bond-just thinking about it made her feel suffocated.
"Mr. Ward," Emily's distant tone made Leo feel a pang of sadness.
But he knew the Ward family had wronged her and her mother, so he had to accept whatever she called him.
"I don't think there's anything left for us to talk about. I'm only taking this call out of respect for my mother's wish. I can tell you where her grave is so you can pay your respects, but you should know who is welcome and who isn't. Also, the JM Jewelry store's prized possession and the two 'Ice and Fire' necklaces you bought I've entrusted them to a reliable colleague. He'll handle the handover, so I don't need to be involved."
Emily was about to hang up when Leo's shout made her pause.
"Emily! I know you're heartbroken over your mother's death! Do you think I'm not? She was my daughter, my wife's flesh and blood! Do you know how hard we searched for her?"
Leo's voice grew more emotional, and Emily felt increasingly agitated.
She knew exactly how Isabella had suffered over the years. She had witnessed every bit of it.
First, her parents died, then she divorced Hayden, and then the incident with Evelyn. Isabella had been persecuted constantly, eventually becoming a vegetative state, almost not making it.
But Emily had always taken care of her, never giving up.
She had thought their good life was finally coming, that they could live peacefully without anyone disturbing them. But misfortune seemed to never leave them. Thinking back, Emily's tears began to fall uncontrollably.
She hated Roger and the Ward family even more.
Yes, the Ward family had given Isabella life, but what had they done to her?
Emily firmly believed that if it weren't for Roger, she and Isabella might have already left Emerald City and started a beautiful life of their own.
"Yes, but Mr. Ward, my mother is gone, and I don't want any more contact with you. Didn't your family always prefer living abroad? Why did you come back? Why did you mess with Michael? And now you've caused my mother's death! Do you even know how many terrible things you've done?"
With that, Emily angrily hung up the phone.
She found herself unable to control her emotions, especially when it came to the Ward family.
To her, the Ward family was never her kin but her enemy.
Hearing the dial tone, Leo was filled with sorrow. His eyes glistened with tears, and Alice, seeing this, nervously clutched her clothes, worried about Leo.
"Grandpa, Emily..." Alice hesitated.
But Leo could guess what she wanted to say. He sighed and said helplessly, "I know. She has every right to hate us."
Alice felt a pang of sadness too. ;"It's Dad's fault."
Leo shook his head. "It's also my fault. I raised him to be this way. The biggest blame lies with me."
"Alice, I need you to do something."
Alice stood up and walked over to Leo.

Leo took out a small wooden box from behind him. Inside was a bank card. Alice didn't know how much money was in it, but she could guess what Leo intended.
Sure enough, Leo handed her the card and solemnly said, "Take this and find a way to give it to Emily. I don't ask for her forgiveness, but she must have this. Also, tell Emily that no matter what she thinks, she will always be my granddaughter.
"And the Ward family will allocate 40% of its shares to her. Whether she wants them or not, they are hers, and no one will take them from her."
"40%!" Luna, who had been eavesdropping upstairs, couldn't believe her ears.
She stormed downstairs, shouting angrily. "Grandpa! I know it's not my place to speak, and I know you feel guilty about that mother and daughter, but aren't you being too biased? Alice and I are your granddaughters too. With Dad in prison, how are we supposed to live? You only care about Emily, but don't forget, Isabella left a lot of money for her. She doesn't need our family's money. You should pity me instead..." "Shut up!"
The entire Ward family fell into a somber silence.
Leo hadn't expected Luna to dare voice her opinion about his decision to allocate shares. It was outrageous!noveldrama
"Get out! Get out of the Ward family!" Leo was furious, and Alice tried to calm him down.
But Luna was fearless. She cursed and argued back at Leo. "Why should I leave? If Emily doesn't want to be part of the Ward family, I respect her for having principles. But Grandpa, you can't lose your mind. She doesn't want to acknowledge her roots, but
I am a Ward. If shares are to be given away, we should be consulted first!"
Luna would never be as foolish as Veda, leaving the Smith family to live a hard life outside.
Blood ties can't be severed. She would always be a Ward, and no matter how many shares were left, she would get her portion!
