Chapter 397 Bryan Visits

Leo was so mad he ended up in the hospital.

Alice took him there, while Luna kept her distance. She was terrified, scared something might happen to Leo, and even more afraid of being blamed.

But Luna was conflicted. Part of her wished that everything would just end this way.

After all, Emily's mom was dead, their so-called aunt Vanessa was dead, and their dad Roger was in prison, having faced his punishment. In the end, everything in the Ward family would belong to her and Alice.

But Luna started to dislike Alice.

They had agreed to go back home together, to study abroad together, and never come back again.

But for some reason, Alice changed her mind.

She got together with Bryan and planned to settle down, get married, and have kids.

What about their promise to each other?

So now, Luna had completely changed, becoming twisted.

She no longer wanted to share anything with Alice.

She wished, wished that everyone in the Ward family except her would just die.

On the other hand, Alice was desperate for Leo to wake up.

Leo had fainted from anger, Luna was still stubborn, Roger was in prison, and their only aunt Vanessa had died tragically. The whole family was in chaos, with many people waiting to see the drama unfold.

Alice was overwhelmed, but thankfully, Bryan was there to help.

"You stay here with your grandpa. Luckily, he's not in any immediate danger, but we can't be too careful. Keep an eye on these funds and the Ward family shares...

"I know I'm an outsider, but in this situation, an outsider might be able to handle things better than family. Alice, I didn't expect you to have this connection with Emily." Bryan was quite surprised when he first found out.

He was friends with Alice and Michael, and Emily was Michael's wife. But now, Emily turned out to be Alice's cousin, making him and Michael family in a roundabout way. "Yeah, I didn't expect it either. So much has happened lately, I'm feeling numb." Alice spoke, her exhaustion evident in her eyes.

Seeing this, Bryan felt a pang of sympathy. He pulled Alice into a hug, but she quickly pulled away. They were in the hallway, with people passing by, and she was afraid of being seen.

After all, the Ward family had strict rules: neither she nor Luna was allowed to marry into any prominent families in Emerald City.

But now, she had been secretly dating Bryan for a year.

If Leo found out that his only obedient granddaughter turning rebellious, it might be the last straw for him.

Seeing Alice's nervous glances, Bryan understood her concerns.

His eyelashes lowered, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. The feeling was indescribable, a burning pain throughout his body. Despite this, he spoke gently to

Alice.

"I'll go find Emily."

Alice blinked in confusion, then nodded helplessly. Her expression was a mix of sorrow and uncertainty.

Suddenly, she called out to Bryan just as he was about to turn away. "Bryan!" Bryan turned to look at her.

"Please... try to make Emily..." Alice knew Roger had done some awful things, making it tough for Emily to forgive him. She just wanted Emily to feel a bit better, even though no amount of money could make up for the loss of her mother.

As the words formed, Alice hesitated. She didn't know what right she had to ask for Emily's forgiveness.

Bryan looked at Alice with a heart full of love and could see her distress.

In this moment, from his perspective, he couldn't judge who was right or wrong.

He could only help Alice try to make things right.

"I will, don't worry." With that, Bryan looked at the tearful Alice.

He had an urge to pull her into his arms again, but he clenched his fists and suppressed the thought.

"What did you say? Emily, you really change your mind quickly."

Abigail was about to leave for work and wanted to ask Emily if she planned to return to work soon. She was surprised when Emily mentioned wanting to go abroad.

As for when, Emily said she hadn't decided yet.

"Going abroad sounds good, a chance to clear your mind. You won't have to worry about..." Seeing Emily's indifferent expression, Abigail didn't continue.

She could only think to herself. 'You won't have to deal with those troublesome relatives or any unexpected family members.'

Emily forced a smile. She knew what Abigail wanted to say, but saying it would only make her sad.

Going abroad was partly for that reason.

Emily just wanted to be stronger, to take a break and enjoy a short trip, leaving

everything and everyone behind for a while.

After Abigail left, Emily felt a sense of relief.

Even Abigail thought she was forcing herself, and Emily felt it too.

Emily didn't want to live like a puppet.

Looking at the desolate entrance, Emily thought of Isabella's last moments. They hadnoveldrama

argued, and Emily, stubborn as ever, didn't ask where Isabella was going.

She was just angry, not knowing it would be their permanent parting. Emily's eyes welled up as she thought of this.

Her heart was in turmoil, and she cried out loud. She had been like this these days, with an overwhelming sadness she couldn't suppress.

Emily couldn't think about anything else, not Michael, not the Ward family. Her mind was blank.

But maybe that was for the best. She didn't want to deal with all the chaos.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

Emily looked up.

Abigail had been home these past few days, so Emily hadn't faced the outside world.

Now, just as Abigail left, someone came.

Emily thought it was too much of a coincidence.

Maybe Abigail had forgotten something.

Without thinking much, she opened the door, only to see a familiar face.

It was Bryan. He looked as calm as ever, as if nothing could affect him.

But Emily knew he wasn't just passing by.

"What's up?" Emily's tone was icy.

Bryan was surprised but understood.

"I came to check on you, as a friend, nothing more."

Bryan explained briefly, and Emily didn't feel the need to shut him out.

After all, she knew the Watson family had nothing to do with this tragedy, and

Penelope had helped with Isabella's surgery costs.

Emily had wanted to thank Penelope, and now Bryan was here.
