The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 394 Showing Up at His Place

The side of Daniel's face where Veda had slapped him started to sting.

Daniel pressed his tongue against his cheek, but his expression stayed the same. He glanced over at Veda and saw tears welling up in her eyes.

She looked like she wasn't going to back down, or maybe she was just being stubborn, and she raised her hand to slap him again.

This time, Daniel wasn't just going to stand there and take it.

He grabbed Veda's hand and said, "Haven't you had enough?"

Tears streamed down Veda's face as she glared at him, her voice filled with anger. "How could it ever be enough?

"Daniel, you lied to me. You and Emily have been deceiving me all along... If you have a kid with her, why did you promise me you'd take things slow and think it over? Do you think Michael and I are idiots?"

Hearing this, Daniel realized his suspicions were correct. It was all because of that misunderstanding.

But that was just Sophia's one-sided story.

He and Emily... how could that be?

Taking a deep breath, Daniel asked Veda, "Veda, when will you stop being so childish?"

Veda's anger flared up again, and just as she was about to retort, Daniel grabbed her arm and shoved her into the passenger seat of his car. He then got into the driver's seat.

"Daniel! What are you doing?" Veda panted. Daniel ignored her, buckled her seatbelt, and started the car, speeding out of the parking garage.

Veda didn't dare act out while Daniel was driving, but she wasn't planning to talk to him or forgive him either. After all, he had done such despicable things. Why should she be nice to him?

She kept thinking this way the entire drive.

But she didn't expect Daniel to take her to Emerald Lake Manor.

"I know your brother is here. Today, I want to clear things up in front of him."

Veda was confused. "Clear up what? The things between you and..."

Daniel couldn't take it anymore and shouted, "I didn't do it! I told you before, Emily doesn't have feelings for me. It's always been one-sided. Can't you see she's in love with Michael?

"Veda, I've told you many times, you're great in every way, but your tendency to believe others so easily is what gets you used over and over again."

With that, Daniel got out of the car, slamming the door in frustration.

Veda was startled. She hesitated for a moment, then followed him out of the car.

Daniel had heard from Emily that Michael didn't want Mason to know about his injury, so he had been staying at Emerald Lake Manor after being discharged from the hospital, using excuses to avoid going back to the Smith Mansion.

So Daniel knew he could find Michael at Emerald Lake Manor.

And with fewer people around, it would be easier to clear things up once and for all.

Sure enough, when Daniel knocked on the door, Michael answered, looking disheveled in his pajamas and slippers. It was clear he hadn't taken care of himself for days.

A CEO of a publicly traded company, leaving all the projects to his sister Veda to handle, while he stayed home all day it was a rare sight.

But Daniel understood. It was all because of Isabella's death. He was worried about Emily, and Michael was too. But Daniel couldn't understand why Michael couldn't just focus on protecting Emily.

"Michael?" Seeing Michael at home, Veda was shocked.

Michael had been telling the Smith family he was busy with projects in nearby cities, which was why he hadn't been coming to the Smith Mansion for meals.

Veda never expected that Michael had been in Emerald City all along, staying at Emerald Lake Manor!

"You're actually home? Why did you lie to Grandpa? And how did Daniel know you were here?" Veda had a lot of questions, clearly unaware of the situation.

But Michael and Daniel exchanged a look of understanding, both knowing exactly what was going on, their expressions unchanged.

"Come in." Michael's demeanor was unusually calm.

Maybe it was the result of days of reflection, or perhaps being turned away by Emily several times had left him disheartened.

Daniel followed Michael into the house, with Veda trailing behind.

She was worried Michael and Daniel might fight over Emily, and she didn't want either

of them to get hurt, so she decided to follow and see what would happen.

"Have a seat. What would you like to drink?" Michael asked Daniel.

The living room of Emerald Lake Manor was decorated in warm tones, a style Emily had chosen. Although she didn't have much say in the Smith family, Mason always indulged her.

Otherwise, Emily wouldn't have had any place in the Smith family.

So the whole house didn't match Michael's current state at all.

Daniel looked at Michael, who seemed so defeated, and didn't feel like arguing. He took a deep breath and said, "Water is fine."

Seeing the two of them so calm, Veda was stunned. She almost wanted to shout, "This

is the first time I've seen you two talk so peacefully!"

But Michael's next question interrupted her thoughts.noveldrama

Veda snapped back to reality. "What? I'll have coffee!"

Michael didn't listen to her. "Less coffee, just have water."

Veda rolled her eyes. "Then why did you ask?"

Michael went to the kitchen, and both Veda and Daniel noticed the wedding photo on the staircase.

The size was just right, and the woman in the photo was smiling brightly.

At that moment, Daniel felt a sharp pain in his heart, and his expression darkened.

But to Veda, it just showed that Emily was a great actress, pretending to be happy to marry Michael, only to turn her back on him now.

Both of their expressions were grim.

Michael returned with two glasses of water, handing them over while glancing at the two of them.

Michael seemed to understand something, and he sat down on the other couch, his voice trembling slightly as he asked Daniel, "So, what do you want to talk about?" Before Daniel could respond, Veda spoke up, clearly upset. "Michael, why don't you ask me what happened?"

Michael gave Veda a stern look.

He didn't say anything, but his presence was intimidating, and Veda fell silent.

Seeing this, Daniel knew he couldn't be too forceful. He spoke gently, but his tone was firmly assertive.
