Chapter 1106
Maja gave a dismissive laugh, "I can't speak for anywhere else, but in Newtown, if any gang even thinks about messing with my sister, Emmery will be the one kneeling and begging for forgiveness!"
"Sweetheart, you can't always be so tough on Mr. Conner. What if one day he decides he's not into you anymore? Since you're his girlfriend, you should learn to be a bit gentler."
Maja snorted, "I've been with him long enough to know I'm not just some accessory."
Knowing Annie couldn't stand Newtown's shady vibes, Maja sent her off to Havenbrook. Initially, Annie felt out of place and kept in touch with her sister almost daily. But gradually, those calls became less frequent.
When Annie confided, "Sis, I've fallen for someone. He's like a bright light in this dark world. He's smart and fair."
"Then go after him," Maja encouraged.
Annie blushed, "I don't know how."
After a heartbreak, Annie called her sister again, "Sis, I miss you. I want to come home."
Maja immediately sensed it, "You broke up?"
After graduating and moving back home for work, Annie heard about the feud between the two Nettleton heirs.
During that period, Maja was constantly with Emmery, and Annie warned her again, "Sis, you should stay away from Emmery. He's caused another death. When I tried to arrest him, he pushed the blame onto someone else."
"Come on, kid, what do you know," Maja dismissed.
Unexpectedly, it was Conner, an illegitimate son, who turned the tables, forcing the Nettleton family into chaos, leaving casualties behind.
Emmery, who had been the Nettleton heir for over twenty years, met his end in front of Conner, who didn't even flinch.
Overnight, Newtown changed hands, and everything felt different.
The man who had been seizing power since his teens became the new ruler of Newtown.
Even those loyal to the old Nettleton regime who surrendered couldn't escape Conner's wrath.
Maja came home covered in blood, her eyes hollow. From that day on, she seemed like a different person, with no light in her eyes.
Annie knew her sister had loved Emmery deeply.
Her sister, who always let her do her thing, only stood firm when it came to Emmery.
As the streetlights dimmed, Annie's tears flowed. She wiped them away, chuckling at her own misfortune, "Who would've thought, at a party you'd fall for me at first sight, while my sister was the love of your rival. What is it with the Nettleton family? How come they only seem to have eyes for us sisters?"
Thanks to Maja, the Martin family was untouchable in Newtown.
Conner, driven by his own motives, went to great lengths to protect the Martin family.
Everyone knew the Martin family
almost became in-laws with his
adversary. Logically, they shounet
been the first to be taken down,
along with Maja.
Conner looked at Annie, torn inside, but then boldly said, "The Nettleton family may not have much going for them but they sure have an eye for quality."
"Honestly, whether it was Emmery in charge or me, the lady of the Nettleton family
was always destined to be from the Martin family."
As the night wore on, Conner took Annie's hand, leading her down the long street, where their driver waited at the end.
In the car, Conner promised, "If it ever comes to a showdown with Maja, I won't pull the trigger until the very last moment."noveldrama
"Thank you," Annie replied softly.
What do you think?
