Chapter 587
"Good news! The Douglas family has agreed to call off the engagement!"
David returned home early in the morning and announced the joyous news to his family.
Simone and Monique were clearly delighted.
What neither David nor Monique knew was that if Dustin had not intervened, the Douglas family would have continued to drag on the matter.
Only Simone seemed thoughtful.
She understood that the Douglas family's sudden concession was undoubtedly linked to Dustin.
"Simone, join me for dinner tonight," Dustin said.
"Sure!" she said cheerfully.
David and Monique exchanged knowing and mischievous looks. They even madenoveldrama
a point of telling them not to hurry home and to take their time enjoying the evening.
Dustin booked a picturesque lakeside restaurant for their dinner.
Unlike his usual casual attire, he had gone out of his way to wear a tailored suit.
Since Simone had work during the day and would not be free until after office hours, Dustin waited at the restaurant alone.
She finally arrived after 7 p.m. The sky was nearly dark, and she looked visibly tired.
"Sorry, I had such a hectic day," she apologized as soon as she reached the table.
"It's fine. I would've waited all night if I had to," Dustin said warmly.
"You..." Simone's eyes widened in surprise as she noticed his attire.
She had never seen him dressed so formally.
"What's with the suit? Job interview?" she teased. "Still... it looks good on you."
"I always look good," Dustin said jokingly.
He could only be this relaxed with Simone.
"Fine, fine! You always look good..." Simone said with a light laugh as she sat down.
"Now, what's for dinner? I'm starving..."
Dustin immediately signaled for the waiter to serve the dishes.
After a hearty meal, Simone leaned back with a contented sigh.
"Simone, be my girlfriend," Dustin suddenly said.
"Sure, whatever you say." Simone stretched lazily with a casual smile on her face. Then, she froze.
"Wait... what did you just say? Say that again..." She looked at Dustin in disbelief.
"I said, be my girlfriend," Dustin said with a smile.
Simone's eyes widened, and her expression turned into a mixture of shock and disbelief.
She had not expected Dustin to confess tonight.
The two had always been in an ambiguous and undefined phase in their relationship. They had never addressed the feelings between them.
She had assumed it would stay that way indefinitely.
Dustin, however, had thought this through.
At the lowest point in his life, Simone had been the light in the darkness.
She was kind, beautiful, and compassionate. Unlike the ungrateful Wyatt sisters, she had offered him solace and hope.
Dustin had fallen for her but had hesitated to confess because of the burdens he carried.
His quest for vengeance against
those who wronged the Fox family loomed large. His enemies were
powerful and mysterious. His
chances of success were uncertain.
He had feared that if they were together, he would not be able to protect her.
But he realized something
important, whether they were
officially a couple or not, the Langley
family was his family, and they
would be targeted for that whether
he liked it or not.
The only way to safeguard his loved ones was to keep growing stronger.
"Simone, you don't want to?" he asked hesitantly.
"Of course, I do!" Her eyes shimmered with tears of emotion.
Unbeknownst to Dustin, she had fallen for him ever since he stepped in to save
her from those thugs.
She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like forever...
Dustin exhaled in relief after hearing her answer.
What do you think?
