"I know, Mom. I miss you guys too," Pearl assured Susan.noveldrama

"I heard from Rick that you lost your memory abroad. What happened?"

Pearl just smiled at the question. "It's a long story, Mom. I'll fill you in when we have more time."

"Okay, as long as you're back now." Susan sighed deeply as she touched Pearl's face once more. Then Susan noticed Darius behind Pearl, and her eyes lit up. "This must be your child, my dear grandson!"

Susan squatted down slowly, extending her hands toward him. "You must be Dar. Come here, let me take a good look at you."

Darius, seemingly guided by familial ties, didn't resist Susan's embrace. He cautiously approached and obediently entered her embrace, then said, "Grandma."

"What a precious grandson I have." Susan was delighted and pulled out a card from her pocket, offering it to Darius. "This is a black card with unlimited credit. Take it, Dar. Use it whenever you need anything."

Amused and exasperated, Pearl took the card from Darius's hand and handed it back to Susan. "Don't be silly, Mom. He's still young and won't be able to use it."

Susan pouted, cheeks puffed with frustration. "Why not? He seems so well-behaved."

"Since you think that way, why don't you hold onto it for him first? You can give it to him when he's older. It's not wise to give a child so much money now. Let's not rush things." Susan nodded in agreement, satisfied with the idea. "You're right. There's plenty of time in the future."

They were happily chatting, completely oblivious to Richard behind them. Only when he awkwardly cleared his throat did they notice him, especially Susan, who scrutinized him impatiently.

"You've been back for so long. Why are you still standing there? Go cut some fruits and pour some tea for them."

Richard awkwardly rubbed his nose. "I just got back, Mom. I'm tired too."

"What are you tired of? You're a grown man." Susan rolled her eyes, then patted the two of them, signaling them to sit. "You guys rest for a while. Rick isn't sensible at all. I'll go cut some fruits for you."

Pearl wanted to stop Susan, but she just went off humming a tune, leaving Pearl and Richard staring at each other.

Seeing this, Darius was somewhat puzzled. He gestured for Richard to bend down so he could speak to him. When Richard did, he asked cautiously, "Daddy, does Grandma not love you?" He even looked pitiful, as if to say everyone else had a mother's love except for him. How unfortunate.

Richard nearly choked in disbelief. Where did this kid learn these things?

He turned to Pearl, who was calmly sipping her tea on the couch. She just raised her eyebrows slightly, as if to say it had nothing to do with her.
