The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 534 Returning to the Right Track

Scarlett ended up at the Emerald City police station.

What happens next was beyond Michael and Emily's control, and Veda could only watch helplessly.

The Smith family drama seemed to have settled, but aside from Veda, everyone still felt a lingering gloom.

Fortunately, Daniel had taken Veda away in time, and deep down, Veda still liked Daniel.

At this moment, she was willing to stay with Daniel, which gave Mason, Michael, and Emily a chance to talk.

In the hospital room, Mason let out a long sigh, lying on the bed with an IV drip.

An hour ago, when he learned that Veda was not his biological granddaughter, Mason felt the world spin around him, his mind went blank, and he aged ten years in an instant.

Luckily, Michael had found an excuse to deceive Veda, saying Mason was unwell and had gone home because of Scarlett's anger. Veda didn't think much of it and didn't know Mason had been rushed to the ER again.

Mason stared at the ceiling, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

The family harmony he once believed in, the bonds he worked hard to maintain, had collapsed in an instant.

And it was all because of that damned Scarlett!

"Michael, there are things I shouldn't say, but now that you know everything, I can't hold back anymore. I'm old, and I need to be direct with you."

"I never liked your mother, not from the beginning. What Scarlett said was half true. Since she married into the family, your grandmother and I never treated her well, but it wasn't because of her humble background or because she married while pregnant. It was because her ambition was too great; she was never a woman who could stay home and raise children.

"Your father couldn't see through Scarlett's intentions, but I could. Since she married in, your father wanted her to educate you all at home. I didn't say anything and agreed, but later I found out she was secretly manipulating the Smith family, trying to control us. How could that be allowed?

"So, I took back the management rights and told your father to be wary of your mother. In hindsight, I realized it was wrong. It caused unnecessary conflict between them.

"But now, with things as they are, I have to admit my concerns were not unfounded. Her actions have far exceeded my expectations. She harmed your father, and now she's coming after you and your children, dragging Emily into it too!"

At this point, Mason was almost overcome with anger, nearly coughing up blood.

Seeing this, Michael hurriedly urged Mason to rest.

Emily also tried to comfort him. "Grandpa, it's all in the past. Please don't bring it up again. Michael understands you, and so do I. As long as Mom doesn't..."

Emily trailed off, realizing she couldn't explain away this mess. Scarlett had willingly caused all this chaos.

She would never regret disrupting the Smith family like this.

"Emily, you can't continue, can you?" Mason snorted, his eyes sharp. "Her scheming is ingrained in her. You don't need to defend her or explain for Michael's sake. I've done that before! But her stubborn nature means I won't try to bring her back. Let her be!"noveldrama

Emily guessed Mason really meant "let her rot in prison."

But out of respect for Michael, Mason couldn't say it outright, so he said all this instead.

As for the future, whether Michael and Veda would support Scarlett in her old age was their choice.

"But speaking of Veda..."

When Mason mentioned Veda, Michael and Emily both focused intently.

Given Mason's stubborn and proud nature, he should be extremely displeased and resentful of Veda's status as an illegitimate child.

But Veda had lived with the Smith family for over twenty years. Despite the lack of blood relation, there was still affection.

Emily shifted slightly on the cushion, and Mason spoke softly, "She is my granddaughter, always will be."

Then he let out a long sigh, long enough for Emily to recall Veda's spoiled demeanor.

Yes, she had been part of the Smith family for over twenty years.

She was the family's little princess. Even if Mason didn't mention it, he often disciplined her. But Emily knew, for the sake of the family and their bonds, this identity was hard to change and impossible to sever.

"Michael, you must understand, the family's honor cannot be shaken by personal grudges."

This was Mason's last sentence before he fell into a deep sleep.

Later, Mason mentioned it was the most restful sleep he had ever had.

He had spent hundreds of nights in fear and sleeplessness, worried the Smith family would make another mistake and become the talk of Emerald City. Now, Scarlett had been kicked out again for her wrongdoing, and Michael and Veda had their own lives.

Mason could finally let go of his burdens and enjoy his retirement.

In the end, Emily followed Michael back to Emerald Lake Manor.

It wasn't that her relationship with Michael had improved, but she didn't want to return

to the new place she had found, nor did she want to trouble Abigail. It was easier to go along with Michael's wishes and stay for now.

After all, Michael's emotions were unstable due to Scarlett's actions. If he couldn't see his child, he might break down further.

Additionally, Michael was concerned Emily might mind their divorce and not want to live together. So he spent most of his time with Veda at the Smith Mansion but often visited Harry.

The night at Emerald Lake Manor was peaceful, the moonlight casting a cold glow over the courtyard.

Emily stood by the window, reflecting on everything that had happened recently. Mason had assigned the manor's chef to prepare delicious and healthy meals for Emily.

The chef's skills were excellent, and every dish was visually appealing, flavorful, and nutritious.

Emily ate well, and with proper care, her complexion improved.

The nanny took good care of Harry, so Emily hardly had to worry.

Emily decided that once she was well-rested, she would return to JM Jewelry Company.

Summer was approaching, and Penelope was planning another exhibition as usual. Emily had already decided to sign up and personally participate in the preparations. Besides Harry, she knew her most important focus now was her work.
