Chapter 350 Drawing Boundaries
Emily was startled, but she had already been scared by Evelyn once before.
She quickly dodged Scarlett, who unexpectedly missed her target, stumbled, and fell to the ground. The knife in Scarlett's hand flew off to the side.
Scarlett hit her forehead, causing blood to trickle down her face. Having never seen blood before, she fainted from the shock.
Doctors and nurses rushed in and took Scarlett away.
The scene was chaotic. Some people had already heard the commotion and gathered at the door to watch, but Benjamin blocked them from entering.
Mason, seeing the situation, angrily pounded the table and shouted, "What did the Smith family do to deserve this kind of punishment?"
Veda was crying uncontrollably, while Michael remained expressionless. Emily, seeing the siblings' distress, quickly tried to calm Mason down. "Grandpa, please calm down. Scarlett has already been punished."
"This is punishment? It's not enough! Not nearly enough! Michael, you need to arrange for your mother to go abroad immediately! She needs to recover, and when she does, remove her from the Smith Corporation's board and transfer all her assets!"
Mason glanced at the sobbing Veda and added, "Leave her with only what she deserves. Don't let her have any unrealistic expectations!
"From now on, the Smith family will have nothing to do with her. If you two want to support her, that's your choice, but she is not to be brought back to the Smith Mansion! The Smith Mansion does not welcome her!"
Mason's words grew harsher. He made it clear that Scarlett was now only Michael and Veda's mother, no longer Alexander's wife. Though it made sense, Veda couldn't accept
it.
She ran out, unable to stop crying.
Emily wanted to chase after her, but Mason stopped her with a word. "She has to face it eventually. Let her go. If you always try to comfort her, when will she grow up?" Mason's words were reasonable, so Emily stopped in her tracks, standing awkwardly. Perhaps noticing the awkward atmosphere between Emily and Michael, Mason claimed he was tired and asked Emily to escort Michael upstairs.
Michael left the room without expression. He didn't need Emily to escort him, but out of respect for Mason and their past relationship, he couldn't refuse.
Emily could tell Michael wanted to keep his distance, but given the circumstances, she just wanted to help him move on and focus on his recovery.
"Michael." Her heart pounded as she called his name, but Michael didn't respond and continued walking upstairs.
Emily, feeling a sudden surge of determination, grabbed Michael's sleeve. "Michael."
Reluctantly, Michael stopped. He had barely spoken in Mason's room, only scolding Veda. Despite Scarlett's misunderstanding, he hadn't explained himself.
Thinking of this pained Emily. Seeing Michael now, pale and lifeless, like a walking corpse, she felt heartbroken.
She had truly loved him. How could she not feel for him, especially now that he had lost his mother's love again?
That was what he had longed for as a child, but he never got it. Instead, he was repeatedly betrayed and misunderstood by those he cherished most. Emily's hand trembled as she held onto Michael's sleeve.
A sharp pain pierced her chest. "Michael, let the past go, okay? Right now, you need to focus on getting better. Don't think about anything else. You can't let Grandpa-"
Before Emily could finish, Michael interrupted, speaking coldly, "I can't let Grandpa down, can't let the Smith Corporation down. Emily, you don't need to tell me this. I understand. I'm sorry our family has burdened you. You said it yourself long ago, but I didn't listen. Let's get divorced. As you wanted. I heard from Andrew that you don't want any assets-"
Those words felt like a rope tightening around her heart, shifting the pain from sharp to suffocating.
It was like the knife Scarlett had hidden in her sleeve, stabbing deep into Emily's heart, drawing blood.
"If you don't want it, you don't have to take it. I won't force you. Emily, this is it. We're over."
Emily was speechless. Those were the words she had wanted to hear, but now that Michael had said them, she felt indescribably hurt. She hesitated, unable to move forward or back.
She could only watch as Michael walked upstairs, his familiar footsteps growing distant until they disappeared.
She stood there, motionless, like a puppet on strings.

Meanwhile, Veda was crying her heart out on the hospital rooftop.
She had been working hard at the company, trying to earn Mason and Michael's praise. She thought that if she became more sensible, the Smith family would be more harmonious.
But she never expected this. Her mother had tried to harm Mason and now Emily. If Mason hadn't discovered it in time, if Emily hadn't dodged in time, what would have happened to the Smith family?noveldrama
What would she become? A murderer's daughter?
Thinking of this, Veda broke down. She didn't understand why she had to endure this.
If she had known, she would have stayed away and not coming back to be a rich girl.
It was more suffocating than being an ordinary person!
Veda's tears wouldn't stop. Just then, she heard someone call her name.
It was Daniel.
Seeing Daniel, Veda couldn't hold back. She hugged him, seeking comfort on his shoulder.
Daniel, unaware of what had happened, had just finished a surgery and came to the rooftop for a smoke. He didn't expect to find Veda in such a vulnerable state.
"Veda, what happened? Take your time, don't rush. Where are your brother and sister- in-law? Is Mason's condition worsening?"
What do you think?
