Chapter 679
Miranda had always kept it under wraps that Nathalie had donated a kidney. She constantly played up how she had raised Nathalie, all while neglecting her own daughter and using moral leverage to manipulate Lincoln.
Nathalie was so furious she felt like her chest might explode.noveldrama
But Lincoln, grateful for Miranda's role in raising his daughter, was willing to meet her every unreasonable demand.
"Big Sis, I've got this covered. I'll reach out to my network and find a kidney for Greta as soon as possible to save her life."
"I won't allow it," Nathalie's firm voice echoed in the room.
Miranda started to cry, "Nathalie, how can you be so heartless? That's your sister, and she's been so good to you."
Good? Good enough to take my kidney?
Nathalie was filled with a bitterness she couldn't express.
She glared at Miranda with fiery eyes, "Life has its own course. My sister's already had one transplant, hurting an innocent girl. You should be grateful for the extra years you've had."
Miranda could only sob pitifully.
Lincoln's sharp gaze moved back and forth between Miranda and his daughter. Finally, he told Miranda, "Big Sis, you should head back. I have a few things to discuss privately with my daughter."
Miranda thought he wanted to persuade Nathalie in private, so she agreed happily, “Alright, alright. I won't disturb your rest then. I'll come by to visit later."
Nathalie signaled to Lizzy, "Show her out."
Lizzy whispered to Nathalie, "Aren't you going to ask about the missing money?"
Nathalie glanced at Miranda, who had heard Lizzy's words and was visibly tense and anxious.
Nathalie looked at the guilty Miranda and chuckled, "What doesn't belong to you will have to be returned sooner or later."
Miranda's face turned ghostly pale.
Lizzy wheeled Miranda out of the room.
Nathalie approached her father's hospital bed, her earlier fierceness fading away.
She now appeared gentle and tender.
"What did you want to say to me, Dad?"
Lincoln was silent for a moment.
"If it's about me being disrespectful to my stepmother, I'll change," Nathalie offered.
Lincoln let out a heavy sigh, then took Nathalie's hand, his voice hoarse and low, "Vivian, I can see she's not truly kind to you. But she did raise you, and by all accounts, we should repay her."
"I understand,” Nathalie replied, trying to placate her father.
After all, her father didn't know the whole truth, which led to his misguided advice.
But then Lincoln shifted his tone,
"But I can't stand to see you suffocated by societal expectations. So, you don't have to pay her any mind from now on. I'll repay her kindness."
"Do you feel better not seeing her?" Lincoln asked.
Nathalie stared blankly at her father, realizing he already knew how unhappy she was around Miranda.
She had been trying hard to suppress her anger towards Miranda. But her feelings were too intense, making it impossible to pretend and get along peacefully.
"Dad, you're like the ultimate dream dad. I was worried you'd scold me for being disrespectful to my stepmother. I've been so anxious about it," Nathalie said with a playful pout.
Lincoln replied warmly, "I'm your only blood relative. My only demand is for you to be healthy and happy Anyone who makes my daughter unhappy, I don't care who they are, needs to stay far away from you."
Nathalie's eyes welled up with tears.
Miranda's demands were always about making her earn lots of money. In
contrast, her father's love was deeply touching and genuine.
