Chapter 297
The call was from Lynn. Her high-pitched voice quivered, piercing the night's silence.
"Is this Mr. Hamilton? This is Lynn, Ms. Sawyer's caretaker."
Brad's sleepiness was gone when he received the call. He asked sternly, "What's going on?"
He honestly didn't like the caretaker much. He found her overly eager, which made him suspicious. Her enthusiasm seemed insincere, and he was irritated to receive her call at this hour.
Lynn continued, her voice shaky as she sobbed, "Mr. Hamilton, something terrible has happened! Ms. Sawyer is missing! I've searched the entire hospital, but she's nowhere to be found. Mr. Hamilton, I didn't mean to disturb your rest, but I've looked everywhere and I'm so worried about her."
The night was quiet, with only the soft sound of rain falling. Even though Nadine had turned her back to Brad, she clearly heard the anxious tone in Lynn's voice. Her drowsiness vanished instantly, replaced by the troubling question of whether Brad would really leave the house in this cold weather.
Brad hesitated briefly, then got out of bed with his phone. Nadine heard the faint creak of the door as he left the room.
Though she didn't catch his response, she was fully awake now.
In the darkness, she opened her eyes and stared into the pitch-black night.
She was waiting, or rather expecting, to hear the sound of Brad's footsteps as he left. Soon, she heard the engine start and the tires crunching over the wet ground.
Lying in bed, she listened to the sounds outside with a cold expression. The light in her eyes slowly faded, leaving only a sense of emptiness.
...
Despite the slippery roads and heavy rain, Brad drove fast and even ran a red light. When he arrived at the hospital, Lynn rushed up to him. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
"Mr. Hamilton, please help find her. With the weather this bad and Ms. Sawyer in
such a fragile state, she won't be able to endure it," she pleaded.
Brad said nothing and began searching the hospital with his bodyguards. Jean had returned to the country for medical treatment. Despite their thorough search, she was nowhere to be found.
As the rain continued to pour, Brad's anxiety grew. He found Lynn again and asked, "Why would Jean leave all of a sudden?"
Lynn shook her head. "I'm not sure. Maybe Ms. Sawyer was feeling unwell and had disturbing thoughts."
Brad's piercing gaze fixed on her, sensing that her vague answer concealed more. "I want the truth!"
Reluctantly, she admitted, "It was your grandfather. He sent Mr. Jenkins to threaten Ms. Sawyer, telling her to stay away from you."
Lynn fell silent as she saw the anger on Brad's face. His expression darkened, and his eyes filled with rage.noveldrama
Brad turned his gaze to the rain and instructed his bodyguards, "Keep searching."
Brad had a sudden realization when he noticed that Jean's belongings in the hospital room were all packed up. He rushed out, got into his car, and sped off. As soon as he left, Lynn sent a text message to Jean, saying, "He's coming."
