Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 727

He flashed a slight smile, skipping the excuses, and got straight to the point, "Heard you were here having a drink, so I thought I'd drop by. Drinking alone can be a drag-mind if I join you?"

His direct and passionate approach sent a flutter through even the seasoned Selena's heart. She got where Rhett was coming from, seeing a reflection of her own younger self-full of zest and doing whatever it took to win over the man she adored.

Even though she wasn't feeling any sparks with Rhett just yet, she couldn't help but feel a kinship with him. So, she didn't turn him down and grinned, "Sure thing."

They settled back into their seats, and Rhett suggested a cocktail for Selena- sweet, not too strong, and absolutely delicious. Selena picked up on his thoughtfulness, a glint of appreciation shining in her eyes.

They toasted and sipped, gradually getting a bit tipsy. Selena, resting her head on one hand, felt the warmth of the alcohol, her whole being relaxed. Under the soft light, her face was fresh and alluring, and Rhett couldn't help but stare, his heartbeat quickening.

He'd seen plenty of women, but none held a candle to her. Every little thing about her seemed made to captivate him, each gesture tugging at his heartstrings.

His gaze grew intense, carrying a hint of masculine boldness. "Selena, are you upset today because of your ex-husband?"

Today, it wasn't solely because of that jerk, but he had a hand in it. Her troubles with Joy were partly Everett's doing. But she wasn't close enough with Rhett to spill her heart out, so she just said, "Sort of."

Rhett leaned in a bit, "If he makes you sad, you should just forget him."

"How do I do that?"

"Move on from the past, start something new, and you won't have to deal with his nonsense," he suggested, his voice laced with temptation.

Selena met his intense gaze and asked instead of answering, "Do you really not care? If your family knew about us, would they be cool with it?"

Not minding her past marriage and two kids was a big deal. Most guys from notable families cared about such things. Dr. Campbell, for instance, couldn't reconcile it, despite his resolve.

The Harris family was just as prestigious as the Campbell family. Rhett chuckled softly, "I don't care. Growing up abroad taught me not to sweat the small stuff. When I like someone, I like all of them. My family's pretty open-minded too. If I like someone, they'll back me up. That's why I feel confident pursuing you; otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to you."

Whether he meant it or not, his words earned him some brownie points. Selena's eyebrows eased, and her smile grew even more captivating.

Rhett swallowed hard, feeling the heat rising in him, "Selena, why not give us a shot? We might just be perfect together."

As he spoke, he leaned in, drawn to her rosy lips. Selena held his gaze, not

backing away. Maybe it was the alcohol, or perhaps something else...
