Chapter 402
Miranda was a bit taken aback when she saw Elian's name flashing on her phone screen. Their last conversation had been through WhatsApp, and it had been a while since then.
She answered the call just as Sebastian was about to drop her off at her doorstep, but they hadn't quite said goodbye yet. Noticing her slightly surprised expression as she glanced at her phone, Sebastian's gaze shifted towards it, as if he had a hunch about who it might be.noveldrama
"Hello?" Miranda answered.
On the other end, Elian's voice came through, laced with a barely contained anger. "Where are you?" he demanded, sounding like a guard dog barely restrained by its leash.
Miranda glanced at Sebastian. "I'm at Sebastian's place."
There was a tense silence, followed by the sound of teeth grinding. "What are you doing there?"
Miranda was puzzled. "Getting some treatment.'
There was a pause on the other end.
Sebastian smiled, "What's going on?"
Clearly, he could hear the conversation too.
Miranda shook her head. "Not sure. He sounds upset."
Suddenly, Elian's tone softened dramatically. "I'm not upset."
Miranda blinked. She wasn't sure who the angry guy from a moment ago was supposed to be.
"I was just asking. Is the treatment done for now?"
Elian's voice was now completely different, as if talking to an old friend.
"Yes, for now," Miranda replied.
"Are you heading home?" he asked.
Miranda nodded, "Yeah."
Elian said, "I'm outside. I'll give you a ride back."
Miranda was surprised. "?"
She hung up and made her way to the front door. Sebastian, curious, followed her.
As they stepped outside, they saw a rugged Jeep parked nearby. Elian was already making his way towards them, wearing a casual outfit over his military fatigues.
Sebastian knew that Elian was
affiliated with the military, and so did
many of the elite families. Yet, no
one was quite sure of his exact rank or position. Sebastian suspected that Elian held a significant role, perhaps even being that person everyone whispered about.
Elian walked right up to Miranda, barely acknowledging Sebastian, and took her hand. "All done?" he asked in a casual manner, as if they were an old married couple.
Miranda let herself be pulled alongside him. "For now, but I'll probably need to come back a few more times."
Elian frowned slightly. "That sounds like a hassle."
Miranda nodded. "It's a bit tricky."
Elian never doubted her, knowing
she wasn't one to lie. And even if she
did, he would trust her without hesitation. After all, if she cared enough to lie, it meant she cared about him too.
"Was staying at his place okay?" Elian asked, his eyes darting to Sebastian.
Miranda answered honestly, "It was fine. Sebastian made sure everything was comfortable."
Sebastian chimed in coolly, "Mr.
Ashcroft, there's no need to worry. I had Miranda stay in the room next to mine, so she could easily find me if she needed anything."
Elian's expression shifted instantly.
What? She stayed in the room next door?
He and Miranda had never stayed that close!
Sebastian turned to Miranda with a light chuckle. "I'll keep your things here for next time, so you don't feel out of place when you return."
Miranda pondered for a moment. "No need. I probably won't need to stay over next time. You can just toss what I used."
Elian's lips curled into a subtle smile, his eyebrows lifting slightly.
What do you think?
