Chapter 392
Miranda's suspicions cast a shadow over Sebastian's face, his expression slowly shifting to one of icy resolve. His eyes, sheltered by his glasses, seemed to glaze over with a thin layer of frost, yet a faint smile danced on his lips. "You're quite astute. Your suspicions mirror my own."
"That night was a family gathering, no outsiders involved. Susie is just a little girl; there's no reason to target her. If anyone was meant to be harmed, it was probably me. I've gone over the surveillance footage from that evening countless times, but I can't figure out who could have done it."
His voice dipped into a somber tone. "I can't determine how Susie got poisoned; nearly everyone interacted with her that night, and she had a bit of everything. There's no way to pinpoint who the culprit is."
Miranda furrowed her brow, pondering deeply. Discussing the perpetrator wasn't urgent right now. They could uncover the person behind it in due time, possibly even tracing back to whoever had orchestrated the poisoning.
She rose and walked over to Susie. Hearing the approach, Susie looked up, her eyes wide and curious, clutching her teddy bear tightly.
"Big sis..." she murmured.
As Miranda approached, Sebastian's gaze sharpened with concern. "Miranda." he began, apprehension lacing his voice.
But Miranda held out her hand towards Susie, smiling warmly. "Come on, give her a handshake."
The gesture was so playful, almost like coaxing a puppy, that it drew a slight frown from Sebastian. He seemed worried for Miranda and took two quick strides to reach them.
"You'd better not-"
Before he could finish, Susie had already reached out and grasped Miranda's hand. Her eyes lit up with delight, her little face breaking into a grin.
"Susie can touch!" she exclaimed with excitement, standing up to hug Miranda, her small hands exploring Miranda's arms and shoulders with joy.
"Susie can touch her!" she repeated, her amazement evident.
Miranda let her explore, chuckling softly as she ruffled Susie's hair. Sebastian looked on, astonished.
"You're okay?" he asked.
Miranda nodded, "I'm immune to all kinds of toxins."
Her body had been altered to withstand any contact poison, leaving her unaffected by such threats.
Sebastian's eyes narrowed slightly, a glint of understanding flashing across his glasses. "You're the first person apart from me that Susie can touch."
Miranda held Susie's hand, gently rolling up her sleeve. "Actually, it's not poison she's afflicted with; it's a curse."
"It manifests through toxins expelled from her body. The reason you can touch her is likely due to an immunity your body possesses, which protects

Normally, someone afflicted would not survive, yet Susie has endured for years. Her constitution may be unique."
"A curse?" Sebastian repeated, clearly puzzled.
Miranda pondered for a moment. "It's hard to explain, but think of it like a king of dark magic. It's akin to a hex-two sides of the same coin. Both have roots in ancient practices, but they differ in execution and effect."
"It's like medicine, where there are different fields of expertise. Each practitioner has their own specialty."
She explained this way because there were parts of the country known for their folklore and superstitions, things Sebastian might be familiar with.
Indeed, Sebastian nodded, signaling his comprehension. "So, the curse wasn't placed directly by the person who wants to harm you. They gave the cursed object or substance to someone at the birthday dinner, and it ended up affecting Susie
Miranda glanced at Sebastian. "I need to conduct a thorough examination. I'll need samples from both you and Susie."
Sebastian replied, "I've tried tests with equipment; nothing unusual showed up."
Miranda raised an eyebrow. "Who said I'm using conventional methods? I have my own ways."noveldrama
With her assurance, Sebastian didn't hesitate to agree. "I'll arrange it."
He looked at Susie, still clutching Miranda's hand. "Can she be cured?"
Miranda answered truthfully, "There is a way, but I'll need to think it through."
Sebastian nodded silently, choosing to trust her.
Miranda continued, "She's become one with the curse after all these years. I can't just remove it abruptly, or it will kill her."
She had the means to dispel the curse, but the prolonged integration with Susie made immediate removal fatal.
Sebastian's brow furrowed at this revelation.
Miranda clicked her tongue thoughtfully. "I'll have to figure out a solution."
"Whatever you need, I'll make it available," Sebastian paused, then looked at Miranda, "Would you consider staying at my place?"
What do you think?
