Chapter 997
Connor's calmness was downright unsettling. Lucas hadn't even realized there was a rooftop here, and when he reached it, he found it completely empty. It wasn't even winter, yet a chill wrapped around him.
The moment the door clicked shut, Connor launched into action without a word. His fist connected squarely with Lucas's face, knocking him to the ground before he could even react. Blood trickled from the corner of Lucas's mouth.
"Connor, what's your problem?" Lucas spat, trying to get back on his feet. But Connor wasn't done. He came at Lucas again, fists and feet flying with no mercy. In no time, Lucas was curled up on the floor, unable to utter a word.
Having vented his fury, Connor finally seemed to snap back to reality. He stood by the balcony, lighting a cigarette. Behind him, Lucas lay still, barely moving.noveldrama
Lucas had always known Connor as someone who never forgot a slight. So when Connor appeared, Lucas's gut instinct was fear. But Connor's calm demeanor was misleading; he turned out to be a cool-headed maniac, waiting patiently for Lucas. Without asking a single question, Connor had beaten Lucas to a pulp. Now, Connor stood at the balcony's edge, his hands smeared with blood, yet he seemed entirely unfazed. He lit a cigarette, his back to Lucas, and stared straight ahead at Disneyland, its dreamy, fairytale allure stretching before him. A slow smile crept onto his face, deepening with a glimmer of tears. "Chloe, I've finally found you," he murmured.
He lingered on the balcony for what felt like ages, long enough for Lucas to regain a bit of strength. Lucas managed to sit up, leaning against the rooftop railing, a faint smile playing on his lips. He reached out to Connor, "Mind if I get a smoke?"
Surprisingly, Connor handed him one. Lucas's body was a symphony of pain, his bones feeling like they might crumble. But he knew Connor hadn't aimed to kill— he'd avoided all the vital spots. With the force he used, Lucas could've easily been dead.
Taking a deep drag, Lucas laughed suddenly, "Why didn't you just finish me off?"
Connor stood straight, looking down at him. Lucas's shirt was ripped, bloodstained, his face battered and bruised. But even in his disarray there was no denying his good looks. He might be a tad spineless, but his gentle, considerate nature made him stand out among the elite as a refined and courteous soul. With looks and a demeanor like that, it wasn't hard to see how someone could fall for him, amnesia or not.
Connor's fingers clenched at the thought, but he didn't strike Lucas again. His voice was icy, “Lucas, you're nothing but a thief."
Lucas chuckled, throwing caution to the wind. "So what if I am? If we're talking thieves, weren't you one too? Chloe was mine first. You barged in back then, and now I'm just reclaiming what's rightfully mine."
Connor hadn't expected Lucas to be so brazen. "Chloe isn't a possession, and she's definitely not yours. I've always been upfront, never hiding her away. Have you even thought about Chloe's feelings? She'sa person, not some collectible. Lucas, how can you be so selfish, doing something so insane just to satisfy your own desires?"
What do you think?
