Seth's eyebrows twitched as he held his breath. Something wasn't quite right. His boss had been in an awful mood lately!

"Yes, sir."

Seth mumbled, almost whispering. He didn't dare talk too loudly. Wyatt didn't even

lift his eyes.

Seth titled his head. Wyatt's indifference was somewhat shocking. What did that mean? Why wasn't Wyatt angry?

After what seemed like a century, Seth finally continued, "What about the case?"

They didn't have any actual evidence, after all. Even if they did continue with it, it wouldn't make too much of a difference!

Wyatt finally lifted his cold gaze. A thought seemed to strike Seth as he hurriedly added.

"He won't be getting a promotion, at least, not any sooner! That Jake Lamer, he's actually a pretty bright guy. He's solved many cases, but he's just a little stubborn and inflexible when it comes to socializing, that's why he's made a few enemies along the way!"

Wyatt tapped his fingers lightly as he narrowed his dark eyes, "Withdraw it, then."

"What?"

Seth's eye widened as he couldn't believe his ears. After everything they've done? And they were just going to withdraw it? That was it?

"Do you know Tom and Jerry, Seth?"

Wyatt lowered his head and continued signing the documents after posing his question.

Seth was a clever man indeed. His eyes continued to widen as he realized what Wyatt was doing. He was playing with them. They dragged him in, made his life h*ll, and they were going to let him go. They'd give him this misperception of peace and freedom, and when he was finally used to his temporary liberty, they'd pull him back in and devastate him. It would be a miserable death indeed!

Wyatt had always been straightforward! Seth never expected someone like him to pull such a trick from his sleeve!

What did that petty officer do to enrage him so much? Was it really all for that woman?

Of course, Seth could only wonder. He dared not ask. "Then," he remained professional, "What's our next step?"

"Three men make a tiger."

"Oh?"

"Again?" Seth blurted out.

Was that what he meant?

The little officer's private life was pretty clean and virtuous. Was Wyatt really going to mess that up for him too?

Wyatt raised his eyes again. A trace of discontent flashed before them. "Yes," Wyatt snorted, dissatisfied with Seth's response.

Seth suppressed his astonishment as much as he possibly could. Was Wyatt really going to play it like that?

It was so troublesome. Should Seth just find Wyatt another woman?

Finding Wyatt another woman would seriously be less problematic than what they were about to do!

Things soon came to an end. Waverly didn't expect that woman to withdraw the complaint herself - her family claimed that she had PTSD, which, in other words, meant that she was mentally abnormal. That was why they decided to just let it go!

The whole thing was just a good-for-nothing! However, she must admit that it was for the best!

Jake Lamer also received his reinstatement letter. Despite that, this incident had already done damage to his career.

Waverly never envisioned the situation to develop in such an odd manner. The climax she anticipated never came. From the beginning till the very end, Wyatt hadn't disclosed his identity, either. Waverly stared at Jake Lamer's reinstatement notice as the thoughts raced through her mind.

Were they really giving up so easily? Had she thought too much?

Nevertheless, Jake seemed satisfied with how everything turned out. After completing his reinstatement procedures, he took Waverly shopping for the whole day. They even ate a bunch of delicacies, too.

The peace and harmony returned to their lives quickly.

Waverly continued her typical life before all the chaos. She worked, she dated. Everything felt so normal and mundane, but something was off. Something was missing. Wyatt was missing. She didn't know why, but the man's absence made her...empty.

Another weekend came in the blink of an eye. Waverly got a call from Jake, which was quite uncommon, and the two of them planned on going on a movie date that night.

Hardships and struggles came with their relationship, but that didn't stop their feelings from heating up.

They didn't start out as vigorously. They weren't together 24/7. Waverly didn't know why, but they weren't as possessive or affectionate as most new couples were. They were like old couples. It was as if they had been together all their lives. They went on dates like old friends, but the sparks of love were still present between them. It was a little complicated, she couldn't really explain it, but the joy outweighed the pain, so why complain?

The two of them got some noodles for dinner before heading to the movie theater, holding hands.

"Let's eat some sunflower seeds instead of popcorn this time!"

Jake turned his head and his heart melted when he saw his lovely girlfriend behind him, "Of course. We can even buy both. You can eat whatever you want!"

"You'll regret spoiling me like that! There are five flavors of popcorn and another five for the seeds! What if I wanted them all?"

Jake chuckled, "I can even get a truckload of food for you if your little belly can take it!" He then reached out and rubbed her tiny hands.

"Waverly, you don't have to compromise for my sake. I won't fall asleep watching romance films, you know!"

Waverly would always choose action films, or martial arts movies whenever she went on a movie date with him.

Those movies were full of violence and deaths! There was nothing romantic about them!

Waverly tilted her head and stared into his eyes seriously.

"I'm not compromising. I like movies loaded with action and thrillers. Maybe you won't fall asleep watching romance films, but I will. I'm not really like other girls, huh?"

She even tried watching romance TV series, but she could barely finish the first episode. She didn't know how she'd push through a two-hour-long romance movie!

"Oh, no, no," Jake chuckled again, "You just seem so much more mature-" Jake then caressed her hair. His eyes were as soft as water.

"You're like a pure white piece of paper, free from the filth of this world, and I just really want to protect you, you know! But sometimes, you can be so strong and so brave. I thought you'd cry when I got detained!"

Not only did she hold back her tears, but she even helped handle his situation! Perhaps she wasn't as vulnerable as he thought her to be.

Just as she was about to say something, a sharp female voice tore through the air, "You shameless b*tch! You slept with my man!" "Your man? You're the b*tch! He's my man! like him! I've known him for half a year!" "Well, we've been together for a whole month now!" noveldrama

"You sl*t! You shameless sl*t!"

The couple's gaze followed the source of the voices in unison. Jake even subconsciously pushed Waverly behind him. When their eyes landed on the drama, they both paused for a few seconds.

"Those two women seem familiar..." Waverly thought, "Wait, it's them! Those two troublemakers at the mall!" Just a while ago, the two of them had ganged up on Waverly, and now, it seemed like they were having a civil war. "Aren't they good friends?" Waverly pondered, "Why're they fighting?"

The two women were bent over as they grabbed each other's hair. Their clothes were ripped as they refused to let go of each other. They fought and rolled on the streets. It was a true cat fight.

"Shame on you! I thought you were my friend, but you're hooking up with my man! Backstabbing b*tch!"

"I can't believe you! You're the backstabbing b*tch! He only loves me!"

"No, he loves me! He's already proposed to me!"

"Dream on! He's going to marry me! You seduced him into sleeping with you! I'm gonna make you wish you were never born!"

"You're the one who's gonna burn in h*ll! And I thought you were my friend!"

One of the women wasn't wearing a coat. Even her sock was torn. It was as if she had just come back from her date with the said man. However, the man was nowhere to be seen.

Waverly's lips curled into a snigger as she watched them fight, "They deserve it!"

Just a while ago, she was the "mistress". They beat her up and stripped her in such a righteous and confident manner. Now, look at what they've become. How disgraceful!

Ridiculous!

Waverly was really enjoying herself as she watched the drama unfold!

As Waverly continued watching the two women fight, she abruptly recalled her traumatic experience. It made her shudder-

Apparently, Jake had, too, recognized the two women. The couple exchanged glances and he decisively led Waverly out of the messy scene.

However, the calmness of the quiet night had gone. That night was destined to be chaotic.

The two of them got some

sunflower seed from a shop nearby.

Just as they were about to leave,

though, a man and a woman came into sight. The man was obviously drunk. He even had a wine bottle in his hand as he chased after the woman while he took the Lord's name in vain. Waverly instinctively stepped backward from the drunk man and was disoriented for a moment. However, when she finally came back to her senses, Jake was

no longer by her side.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

Waverly then paused for another couple of seconds before following after him,

"Jake-"What was going on?

Waverly was breathless after

chasing them for half a block. When

she finally recovered from the fatigue, she lifted her eyes and saw Jake pressing the drunk man against the ground. The two of them

were wrestling on the floor, but Jake evidently had the upper hand as he had full control of the drunk man's elbow.

"Who the f*ck are you?" The drunk man hollered, "Mind your own business, lad!"

"Let go of me!"

"Ouch!"

Waverly hurriedly rushed forward and the scent of alcohol quickly intruded her

nose. She didn't want Jake to get into trouble, so she yanked on Jake's arm as she pleaded, "Jake, what are you doing?"

Jake was fuming with anger as he yelled, "I'm a police officer!" Before he could even finish his sentence, the man suddenly held onto his belly

and cried out, "Ouch, the police's misusing his power! He's beating me! My stomach hurts! My arm is broken!"

The man was obviously a scoundrel. A crowd quickly gathered around the two

men, and Waverly did all she could to drag Jake out of the scuffle.

The street fell into chaos in a matter of

seconds as more people gathered by.
